PSD Sans Photoshop

When I need to review Photoshop .psd files, I may not want and sometimes can't afford the overhead of launching Photoshop or Fireworks. If I'm on a Mac I can use Preview, but for some reason that app won't normalize psd to their native size, making me guess at zoom levels. Annoying.

Luckily, there's another app you just might have handy, yourself -- QuickTime Player. Leveraging the QuickTime platform's compatibility with more than just video and audio types, Apple's free QT Player opens psd at their native resolution, and does so across platforms.

This could especially be helpful for account/project manager types and copy writers, whose computer budget don't often allow development and design applications. I suspect many of us not in Photoshop all day would welcome the ability to, in a pinch, open that rare psd that needs attention right this instant... I certainly do.

Looks like the normalization problem with Preview has been resolved in Leopard (happy day).
